God’s Truth Sets Us Free
Who else struggles with feeling bogged down from the pressure of trying to listen to all the voices around them?
As a stay-at-home mom, there are many a day I want to plug my ears and start singing “la, la, la, la, la – can’t hear you!”.
As a woman, there are outside voices from social media, latest trends, breaking news, people from various groups, friends, etc., making it hard to focus.
As a Christ Follower, there are inside voices telling me I’m not good enough, not fully equipped, not really forgiven, not the right person, not doing it right, etc., making it hard to know what’s from God and what’s not.
If you’re like me, I sincerely hope the words from a recent devotion usher in a sense of peace and freedom…
God speaks to us using love-tones, lifting us up. He convicts us cleanly, without crushing words of shame. (Adapted from: Jesus Calling, Sarah Young)
What a powerful way to help us discern if the voices we hear in our head and heart are from God OR from Satan and the people around us.
After reading this, and looking back over the last several years, it became so easy to see how much of what I’ve struggled to overcome, wasn’t something I needed to worry about – because it wasn’t from God!
They weren’t things that lifted me up or drew me closer to God or helped me improve as a person. The inside voices were littered with shame, doubt, and feelings of unworthiness. And the outside voices were cloaked in judgement, hurtful words, and the sense there were things wrong with me.
Those things I let bog me down, wrapping chains around my soul, were from Satan and people around me.
God’s Truth will set us free every single time. It doesn’t mean growth won’t be needed. But it will be positive, full of excitement, and oh so freeing to surrender to His leading, as I’m just starting to learn.
Abba Father, I pray those reading these words will experience the freedom of letting go of worldly influences. Help us to drown out that which is not from You. May we remember Your guidance is spoken in love, with no condemnation, and comes with provision to do that which You have asked of us. Enable us to surrender that which bogs us down. Set us free. Amen.
