Vintage Wall Tile Inspiration

I love flea markets! I really only go once a year with my mother and sister in law, but it’s always fun to guess what we’ll find!

This year it was some wonderfully aged metal wall tiles. They were $14 each – I have no idea if that’s a bargain or not – I just really liked them. And over the years I’ve learned if you see something you like that much, just pick it up. Otherwise it’s never there when you go back!

There was no real plan for what or where I would use them, so they sat for a while. In the shopping bag, on the floor, in the pantry closet. And then one day inspiration hit.

My living room has a large wall. Since we moved here over three years ago it’s only had this flower artwork and three metal candles sconces. I LOOOOVE the flower artwork (and got it on super sale around 7 years ago for $36) – so that was staying put as the focal piece. However, I wanted more of a farmhouse/country/rustic feel than a contemporary (slightly boring) feel.

I decided to mess around with hanging the wall tiles with the flower artwork. There were only two of them, which was a little tricky because it didn’t take up that much wall space and I didn’t want them to appear lost. But as soon as I rummaged around in my bins of craft stuff, I found several other things to pair with it.

Then I thought a wood beam as an anchor piece would like nice, so I went out in the garage to look and found the perfect piece. I’m not sure what species wood it is, but it was a beautiful color and length. A quick sand and wala!

My handy husband came up with this awesome way to mount the board, so it looked like it was floating. He welded some metal plates to some tubing, notched some holes in the wood beam, and then mounted the metal brackets to wall. Once I had that in place everything else just fell together!!!

Here’s the finished look! A little bit of old and a little bit of new. I love the mix of materials, the pop of yellow, and the earthiness the plants bring to the wall. It’s feels like just enough without being too busy.

I don’t have a large decorating budget either, so if you like anything, fear not the price tag!

Yellow Candle Holders – reused from wall sconces

Metal Bin on the left – $3 from Michael’s Craft Store

Eucalyptus Plant (fake) on the left – $3 from Michael’s Craft Store

Bible Verse Plaque – on sale for $3.50 from Hobby Lobby (I decided that was much cheaper and faster than making one myself!)

Wall Mounting Metal Bin on the right – $10 from Hobby Lobby (forgot my 40% coupon – doh!)

Eucalyptus Plant on the right (also fake – now you know why they look so good all the time) – $4 from Ikea

Overall, I’m very happy with how the wall turned out. It may have taken a few months for everything to come together, but worth the wait! There was a smaller “blank” space to the left of everything – so that’s where my new seasonal wreath will reside!
